What was Ancient Greece
Greece was an ancient civilization in present day Europe. Their civilization lasted from the Archaic period the 8th-6th centuries BC., to the end of Antiquity which was 600 AD. Ancient Greece included a time which is know as "Classical Greece". This period started when Greece fought against the Persians and won. Then after that happened, Alexander the Great of Macedonia conquered some other land expanding Greece. Many ideas developed during Classical Greece too. One thing, such as philosophy, is something that was invented/discovered during this time.
Before Classical Greece was something called The Archaic Period. This is when places like Apoll, Athens, and Sparta were formed. They were called polis translated as city-state. While their city-states were growing, people created Greek theater. The Archaic period started out in 800 BC.. It could be defined as the base of Greece's power in the ancient society. The Greek alphabet was formed during this time also. This is when the population sky-rocketed and new polis were formed.
After the Classical period was the 5th century. Two major city-states, Athens and Sparta, joined forces and became allies for some major battles in this time period. One of them was the Ionian Revolt when cities wanted to take over Greece. Another major battle was during the invasion of Persia. One of the major battles of this war was the Battle of Marathon. Lastly, the Peloponnesian War was during this time.
Hellenistic Greece lasted from 323 BC until the Romans conquered Greece in 146 BC. During this time, Greeks influence of the world was at its high. They were succeeding at almost everything. This includes arts, theater, architecture, mathematics, philosophy, and science. But then, Greece got weaker and the Romans attacked and won. The civilization as Greece as we know it today was over. Even though Greece survived to 600 AD.
